Otolaryngology Dr. Marshall Smith, M.D. Dr. Marshall Smith is an associate professor of Otolaryngolgoy-Head and Neck Surgery. He is a board certified otolaryngologist and the medical director of the Voice Disorders Center. He completed his residency in Otolaryngology at UCLA and a fellowship in Pediatric Otolaryngolgoy in Cincinnati. He is an NIH funded investigator and participates in research on various voice disorders. He provides evaluation, medical and surgical care of the voice. He is the medical director of our multidisciplinary team dedicated to comprehensive care of the larynx. | | |
| Speech Pathologists |  Nelson Roy, Ph.D. CCC-SLP Dr. Nelson Roy is an associate professor in the Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders, The University of Utah. He received his doctorate in communication disorders in 1997 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, WI. He completed his undergraduate and master’s degree education in Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario, Canada. He holds an adjunct appointment in the Department of Surgery, Division of Otolaryngology- Head & Neck Surgery, and conducts biweekly voice clinics at the University of Utah Voice Disorders Center. Dr. Roy is a regularly invited speaker at national and international voice conferences and has published extensively in the area of voice disorder assessment and management. His current clinical and research interests involve: (i) epidemiology of voice disorders, (ii) treatment efficacy, (iii) differential diagnosis of MTD vs. ADSD, (iv) development of an objective, acoustic index of dysphonia severity, and (v) identifying factors that contribute to the origin and maintenance of specific voice disorders.

| |  Kristine Tanner, Ph.D., CCC-SLP. Dr. Tanner is a speech pathologist and clinical director of The Voice Disorders Center. She provides care for patients with a variety of voice problems and specializes in the care of the professional voice. Dr. Tanner is an adjunct faculty member in the Division of Otolaryngology—Head & Neck Surgery at The University of Utah School of Medicine and in the Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders at The University of Utah. Dr. Tanner’s research interests include treatment efficacy and the differential diagnosis of clinical voice disorders, as well as issues related to professional voice use. Dr. Tanner is also a singer and performs regularly in the local community.

 Daniel R Houtz, MA CCC-SLP
Dan Houtz is a full-time speech pathologist in the Voice Disorders Center. He received his graduate degree at the University of Utah where which he completed a thesis under the supervision of Dr. Nelson Roy. Mr. Houtz then treated various voice disorders as a speech-language pathologist in Phoenix, Arizona. Mr. Houtz is a Lee Silverman Voice Therapy® (LSVT) Certified Clinician. His research interests include differential diagnosis and treatment efficacy of voice disorders.

| Singing Voice Specialist |  Faye Muntz, M.M. Faye received her Master in Music degree from Southern Illinois University with continued education specializing in the injured singing voice. Before moving to Salt Lake, she produced and directed several musicals and served as a vocal coach and consultant for area choruses, as well as being a featured soloist in the area. In addition to working with patients at the Voice disorders Center she has a private voice studio. Many of her students have won competitions locally and perform professionally. | | | |
